How do I find a street address and names people who lived there as recorded by the 1940 census?

Answer

Enter the URL: http://1940census.archives.gov/
Open the Getting Started tool bar option and enter the the information requested from the Search Location Option using the drop down menu:
Fill in the name of State, County, City and then select the "street name" from the drop down list provided. Add a cross street by selecting it from the drop down list. Choose the tab "Census Schedules (3) to view the census taker's hand written microfilmed record for the street addresses on the block. Scroll the images to view numerical addresses and names of occupants. Record the Enumeration District number to revisit the site at a later time and localize the address more efficiently. An example of an Enumeration District number is ED 103-718. To search using this option select the Enumeration District radio button, enter the State and 103-718 in the ED box provided.
