Q. Where can I find induction statistics BY MILITARY SERVICE during Vietnam era? In other words, how many draftees were conscripted into which
After much digging, I found some numbers for you. What threw me at first was trying to find numbers for each branch of the military. But after some reading, I found that only two branches of military used draftees. The Air Force, Navy and Coast Guard all had wait lists and didn't need to use draftees. This is because these were considered "safer" at the time and to avoid being drafted into the ground troops in Vietnam, which were the Army and Marines, people signed up for the safer branches instead. The total draftees for Vietnam between 1965 and 1973 was 1,728,344. The Marine draft was 42,633. This would, I assume, make the number for the Army 1,685,711.
